Chapter 24: Confrontation
“Evidence? Which evidence?” the woman shout.
Her face red. She dey shake head, dey talk with hand. Everybody dey look her, dey wait for police answer.
Police explain, “You dey suspect of invading person privacy, spoil their name, dey push people to attack…”
The DPO read the petition. She dey tap foot, dey frown, but police no send her.
“Na because una no do anything, dey ignore widow and orphan—na why I do am! Everything wey I talk na true! I no fear una! He suppose die!” she dey shout. “Even my pikin talk say na him!”
Her voice loud. People dey shake head, dey pity her. Some dey vex say she dey waste police time.
I no answer her.
I dey hold my mouth, dey look ground. Na only God fit judge me now. I dey beg my spirit make I no cry for front of police.
I tell police my demand clear. “She spoil my name everywhere, destroy my family, bring me and my people pain. I want public apology, make she delete all the lie, pay me for all my loss, and make una charge her by law.”
My lawyer dey nod. "Na this country, we dey seek justice. Abeg, do the right thing."
I talk, “I no go settle at all!”
People dey look me, dey whisper. Some dey say I get mind, some dey say I dey do too much. But I no care—my name dey at stake.
