Chapter 6: Trapped With Death

6

That night, Lillian came home.

Luckily, I’d cleaned up perfectly, and she didn’t notice anything unusual.

I lay on the corpse, feeling his cold skin, quietly waiting in anticipation.

Finally, when Lillian pressed tightly against me, sinking into my body, I was so excited that I cried.

I felt her rubbing, rolling, moving on top of me.

“Everything is back to normal,” I thought.

Of course, some things were different.

After all, I was now lying on a dead body.

His skin was cold and rubbery, and every time I shifted, I felt the stiff give of dead flesh beneath me. His cold lips seemed to be kissing the back of my neck, sending chills down my spine.

But as long as I could get rid of the body tomorrow, I’d have Lillian all to myself again.

But an accident happened right then.

The next day, I just couldn’t open the switch at the end of the bed.

And Lillian didn’t go to work either.

I was stuck inside the bed—with a corpse.

She came in humming under her breath, tossed her jacket over the chair, and plopped down on the mattress like she always did. I clenched my jaw, forcing myself not to gag as the dead weight pressed into my side, the cold flesh a grim reminder of what I’d done. Tears leaked from my eyes, silent, desperate. She scrolled her phone, laughed at some meme, oblivious to the horror beneath her. My heart thudded with hope—tomorrow, I thought, tomorrow I’ll fix everything. But the bed’s mechanism jammed, the latch unyielding. I thumped my fist against the frame, panic rising like floodwater, as the hours stretched out and Lillian didn’t budge. My world narrowed to the suffocating dark and the corpse beside me.
