Kemi pat her, look me for mirror, her voice low. "Abi, e come find person replace am?" She cross herself, whisper short prayer. For Naija, if ghost matter enter, na prayer be solution.
"No be just now dem talk say accident happen for this road, the red sports car driver die for there?" My mind dey race—ghost gist dey scatter my head. Red car, accident, dead driver? Na wahala.
Kemi look me again. "Brother Lawal, you sabi wetin happen after? How many people die for that accident?" Her eyes dey beg answer, but I dey reason say make I no scare the children.
"Mummy—" The girl voice break, she hide face for Kemi wrapper, body dey shake.
Before I fit answer, the girl hug her mama waist, fear catch am. She sob small, Kemi stroke her back gently.
Uncle Musa eye Kemi. "No dey talk all those things. How many die no concern us. No dey scare the pikin for night." He use that sharp voice, the kind papa wey wan end family gist for table.
I look mirror, see as Kemi drop her head, the girl eye just dey water, fear full am. The thing touch me for chest. But as I drive, I dey feel say something dey follow us for this mountain road—something wey no get name.
The boy, Ibrahim, just press him head for window, e dey knock am as the truck dey shake, e no even send. I watch am, the way im dey lost for im own world. Sometimes, children sabi fear pass adults.
