Chapter 11: The Last Toast

In the years that followed, Zachary Todd of the South also fully submitted to Chicago.

In the twentieth year of the New Era,

From the Atlantic in the east to the desert in the west, the Gulf in the south, and the snowy regions in the north—all were Chicago territory.

The map of America was redrawn, the borders secure, the nation united under Foster’s rule.

Harrison spent twenty years to regain the title 'Heavenly Chief.'

All under heaven submitted! Chicago’s territory far exceeded any later dynasty.

That year, at the New Year’s Eve celebration, Harrison, stroking his graying temples, held a grand celebration in Capitol Hall.

The hall was packed, music and laughter filling the air. Harrison stood at the podium, his hair silver, his eyes bright with pride.

At the ceremony, Harrison looked at the assembled officials, raised his cup, and declared: "The late president inherited generations of achievements, unified the States, accomplished all deeds—a peerless leader through the ages."

He continued: "Yet, Chicago’s laws were harsh, undercurrents flowed within the States, ambitions ran wild across the four corners.

For twenty years, I have not removed my armor or dismounted my horse, guarding old lands and opening new frontiers.

Together with all of you, I have laid the foundation for future generations. Should I drink this first cup?"

All the officials answered in unison: "Mr. President should drink!"

Harrison laughed, but poured the whiskey onto the ground.

The gesture was solemn, the meaning clear—honor, sacrifice, and gratitude for the journey.

"I have followed Heaven’s mandate, for twenty years not daring to slack for a day. Now, looking at Chicago, I can finally say I have answered to the late president and myself."

He said this to the officials, and also to the Foster whom he had replaced.

"Foster, this life, I have replaced you—surely you have no regrets?"

After the banquet in Capitol Hall, Harrison looked up at the sky and quietly asked.

Just then, a breeze lifted the velvet curtain, brushing his shoulder, as if Foster lightly patted him.

The moment was quiet, the city holding its breath. Harrison smiled, feeling the approval of generations past.
