I left the hospital, racing to Mohan Lal’s home under the pale moon. The house looked even smaller, as if shrinking from the world.
I pushed the door open—it wasn’t locked. Inside, darkness pressed in, broken only by my phone’s torch. The beam swept across dust, tin plates, toys, memories.
I hurried to Ananya’s room, down a corridor lined with faded photos—a family, smiling once, now broken.
Mohan Lal’s words echoed: “She doesn’t need anyone to take care of her. If you don’t believe me, go and see.”
I reached for the door handle, my heart hammering. Whatever waited behind that door would change everything.
