Chapter 10: A City on Edge
The pressure on the police was immense. They arrested more people—and all confessed. But Arjun knew, none of them were the real killer.
Other than frantically arresting people, the police had no other tactics.
It’s worth noting that forensic scientists from the Delhi lab found two samples of bodily fluids at the crime scenes—both type AB blood.
This was significant, as it ruled out all current suspects—none matched the blood type.
The facts proved Arjun right, but he couldn’t celebrate, because the killer was still free.
Let’s review what clues the police had so far: AB blood type, two sets of footprints at the scene, a grey hair, and some fragments of clothing.
Nothing else.
The police were utterly defeated.
Arjun persisted.
He believed there was no such thing as a perfect crime. The killer would slip up eventually, and when he did, Arjun was sure he could catch him.
He rubbed his tired eyes, sipped cold chai from a steel tumbler, and stared at the evidence spread before him like pieces of a puja thali, searching for meaning.
Arjun decided to focus on the tenth body—the little boy with bodily fluids detected inside—because this time, there were witnesses.
Someone saw the boy, before he disappeared, leaving with a tall man.
This man wore glasses, had sunken cheeks, stiff knees, and large feet.
