Chapter 8: The Wrong Man
Was it over?
——A total of 24 bodies; the murderer began removing all organs and desecrating the corpses.
Arjun met the so-called "murderer" in prison: a young man with an intellectual disability.
But the moment Arjun saw him, he knew they had the wrong person.
The real murderer was methodical and left no evidence. Someone with an intellectual disability simply couldn't have done it.
But the police didn’t care.
Under immense pressure to solve the case, they desperately needed a scapegoat.
‘Akal ka dushman, taqdeer ka khel’—Arjun muttered to himself. Sometimes, fate plays cruel games.
They deprived the young man of sleep and tortured him in shifts.
To avoid further beatings, the young man confessed to 11 murders—more than the police had even asked for.
Everything seemed perfect. Now the police just needed to find "evidence" to close the case.
The young man seemed like the perfect suspect: mentally disabled, took public transportation, and most importantly, he confessed. If he hadn’t done it, why confess?
The police began taking him to identify crime scenes.
It was absurd. He had no idea where the scenes were.
The police took him to the general area, but he just wandered in circles.
Then, with police hints, the young man would happily "identify" the spot.
The constables rolled their eyes, knowing in their hearts this was all just a drama for the files.
What shocked Arjun even more was that, before this, several other intellectually disabled suspects had already committed suicide under interrogation.
If Arjun couldn't find the real murderer, this young man would share the same fate.
