Chapter 4: Countdown to Chaos
“Colton, you out running errands too?”
Colton jumped back, startled.
“Savannah, are you possessed or something?”
“Why are you talking to me like that?”
I clenched my teeth, fists balled.
Stepmom, it’s not that I’m not gentle.
He just doesn’t deserve it.
I landed a straight punch right at him.
Then used a wrestling move,
Twisting Colton’s wrist behind his back.
Colton grimaced in pain.
His two buddies looked nervous.
“Savannah, please don’t! Let go of our guy!”
“He just got over the flu, he can’t handle this!”
Colton was stubborn, trembling from the pain but still refusing to give in.
“Let her twist! In three months she’ll be my wife, I’ve got plenty of—ow!”
I twisted harder.
Colton’s face instantly went pale.
And he still thinks he can handle me?
“Colton, with this body, it’s tough being a man.”
“Since you’re so good at collecting phone numbers and waving your keys,”
“Why not go work at the Blue Orchid Lounge as a male dancer!”
“Then our engagement can be called off.”
Colton turned his face away, sweat breaking out from the pain.
Those blue eyes looked at me with hurt.
That look, oddly enough, had a certain charm.
“Don’t even think about it! I’m going to marry you and drive you crazy day and night!”
“I’ve got plenty of strength and tricks!”
If it were before, I’d drag him behind the diner and pin him down until he begged for mercy.
But now, we’re engaged.
Fighting in the street would just make us a joke.
I let go suddenly, making him stumble.
“Hmph, all you have is a sharp tongue.”
Even as I walked away, I could still hear Colton’s voice.
He switched hands to twirl his keys,
shouting after me:
“Savannah, just you wait!”
Three months passed in a flash.
Colton brought over engagement gifts and came to my house.
His dad didn’t come.
My dad wasn’t there either.
Mrs. Blake and my stepmom sat together, drinking coffee.
“Ah, my Savannah is healthy and strong, she’ll definitely have two kids in three years!”
Hearing this, Mrs. Blake looked at me more and more fondly.
