Chapter 11: Shifting Lines
A satisfied man is always easier to handle.
I pushed his buttons, told him I didn’t want to see Lily anymore. The next morning, I watched her cry as she packed her suitcase.
I started to wonder what Ethan really wanted. He didn’t seem the type to give in just because I asked.
Wasn’t Lily his first love?
When I couldn’t figure something out, I just asked.
He ruffled my hair, eyes narrowed, brushing me off with a practiced smile:
"Aubrey, you’ll never be anyone’s substitute."
See? Pretty words. He’d never say what he really meant.
I was always the one left guessing, the one left behind.
