Chapter 5: Julia’s Choice

"Why is it Julia Harper?"

"She doesn’t even fit the heroine’s character..."

People around me are just as unsettled as I am.

The heroine of "Spring Song" is a woman who experiences many ups and downs in life, filmed from youth to adulthood, and needs a more mature look.

But the Julia Harper Matthew chose this time has a much more childish face—how could she possibly handle this role?

Matthew speaks again.

"We’ve made some changes to the script, focusing more on the heroine’s school years. Overall, Julia is the most suitable..." His explanation is still calm.

I’m stunned.

The script changed?

Matthew continues talking about the new script, and the more I listen, the more shocked I become.

This isn’t the "Spring Song" from my previous life at all.

The new script is more plot-driven, faster paced—almost like a commercial popcorn movie.

This isn’t Matthew’s style at all.

The other actors, though a bit dissatisfied, can only accept it.

I pack my bag and leave with the crowd, dazed.

The hallway buzzes with disappointment and nervous energy. I step into the crisp afternoon air, feeling the humidity cling to my skin. My Converse sneakers slap against the cracked concrete, echoing my confusion with every step.

Suddenly, I hear a girl next to me gossiping:

"I’ve heard Matthew and Julia are a couple. Isn’t this just favoritism? Pretending to hold an audition."

I stop in my tracks.

Impossible.

Matthew isn’t that kind of person.

Driven by instinct, I turn and run back, standing outside the lounge.

The door is slightly open, and I hear Julia’s voice:

"Mr. Carter, I thought you’d avoid suspicion and not choose me..."

Suddenly, I remember—Julia was once Matthew’s acting student, and also my peer at school. That teacher-student dynamic always made things messy.

The Matthew I remember was always cool and steady.

In my previous life, even when he was being dragged on Twitter, he was never anxious or upset.

Even on our wedding day, he just smiled a little brighter than usual.

...I’d never seen him lose his composure.

But now, he suddenly reaches out and pulls Julia tightly into his arms.

He’s never been the jealous type—not in public, not even at home. This isn’t the Matthew I knew.

"Silly girl, I changed the script precisely to choose you. Can’t you see that?"

Julia immediately bursts into tears. "Last month, after I confessed to you, you said we shouldn’t see each other again..."

"That was my mistake." Matthew looks down at her, his voice low but unwavering.

"Do whatever you want. I won’t avoid my feelings anymore."

"But you have to promise me, no matter what happens, you must live well."

Julia looks up at him, stunned for a long time.

Matthew smiles, bends down, and kisses her cheek.
