Chapter 4: The Loser’s Smile
The bar was a mess of flashing lights and deafening music.
The air was thick with Alpha and Omega pheromones, chaotic and overwhelming.
I frowned, covered my nose, and shoved my way through the crowd looking for Derek.
The tracker showed she was in a private room on the second floor.
Just as I reached the stairs, I heard teasing, ambiguous laughter from inside the room.
The door wasn’t fully closed, so I could easily see what was happening inside.
Derek was still in her sharp black suit from earlier, but her tie was loose, and a few shirt buttons were undone.
She sat on the sofa, legs crossed, posture lazy and regal, as if she were at an auction.
If it weren’t for the little beauty sprawled across her lap…
My hand clenched the doorframe so hard it creaked. I wanted to burst in, but I desperately needed to know if Derek really only liked Omegas.
Finally, I tore my eyes away from Derek’s face and looked at the Omega.
This was definitely a gorgeous Omega, exuding seductive pheromones from head to toe.
None of the Alphas nearby could resist; they were all going into heat.
Except Derek…
Whew, I’d scared myself for nothing.
I forgot Derek is as cold as ever.
Who knows where the Omega touched while massaging her legs, but Derek grabbed the little beauty’s hair, yanked him back, and clicked her tongue coldly.
“I have a husband.”
I was over the moon.
Before I could celebrate, a flood of unfamiliar memories surged through my mind.
That’s when I realized—the world I lived in was actually a novel.
And I was just a throwaway villain who used family power to forcefully marry the main character.
Derek was the protagonist, and the Omega on her lap was the beloved lead, Nick Lane.
In the novel, I was obsessed with Derek, pestering her endlessly, even resorting to force.
Derek hated me to the core—not only keeping a bunch of lovers on the side, but also having a tormented romance with Nick Lane.
In the end, I was left with nothing: my family ruined, locked up in a psych ward by Derek and Nick Lane, and finally killed by a gang of Alphas on a cold hospital bed.
Derek and Nick Lane, meanwhile, overcame all obstacles and lived happily ever after.
After digesting all this, I was completely numb.
No wonder my relationship with Derek always felt off—now I finally knew why.
Turns out I was just a plot device.
Thinking of my fate in the book, I shuddered.
Hell no.
Absolutely not.
I might have been crazy about Derek before, but that Logan is dead. Now I’m a new-era, awakened Logan.
I can’t give up the whole forest for one tree.
And I definitely won’t let myself end up so pathetic for someone who doesn’t love me.
“See? My husband’s here.”
Derek had noticed me at some point, raising her eyebrows lazily, her voice unreadable.
Calling me husband won’t work on me now.
Having figured everything out, I took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and walked in with a smile.
I let my boots thump against the sticky floor, chin up, eyes locked on Derek’s. Whatever this scene was, I wouldn’t play the loser. Savannah was full of stories, but tonight, I wasn’t just another extra in Derek’s story. I was here to steal the spotlight—and maybe burn the whole damn script.
