Chapter 3: Sisterly Sacrifice

Since I small, na so I dey always hear my mama dey tell her:

“Morayo, your small brother, him body dey weak. Abeg, take care of am well.”

Mama go touch her head, talk am with prayer voice. Sometimes, she go rub Morayo back, dey say, “You go be like mama to am, you hear?” E be like say mama dey use her own hand dey pass all her worry give Morayo.

“Morayo na the most important person for this family. You must help am, you hear?”

Even when papa dey around, he go point me, then look Morayo, say, “Na your work be this o. You no fit slack.” Sometimes, I go see Morayo eye dey shine small, but she no ever talk back.

“You be senior sister. You suppose always give your brother chance. You go pamper am till you old.”

Na so dem dey drum am for her ear. If I cry, na Morayo dem go blame. If I break cup, na Morayo go clean. Even when I dey stubborn, na she go kneel down with me, dey beg make dem forgive me.

Morayo always dey listen to my mama. Since small, she dey let me do anyhow, dey spoil me, dey take care of me for everything.

If I wan eat, na she go serve me. If I wan sleep, na her lap I go rest. Sometimes, I go even dey push her, dey act like king, she go just laugh, dey say, “Oga, you don do.”

I too like my sister since I small. Anywhere she go, na there I dey go, anything she do, na that one I go do.

Neighbours dey tease me, dey call me “Morayo tail.” Even for church, people dey notice say if Morayo no dey, I no go smile. Sometimes, she go dey read, I go just dey look her face, dey copy how she dey move her mouth, dey pretend say I sabi book too.
