Chapter 5: DNA and Destiny
I nearly passed out. My vision swam. I gripped the table, afraid I’d collapse right there in the thana. How is that possible? When could she have gotten my hair? I never even went to the river—how did she get my hair?
“She must be lying. She must have gotten someone else’s hair to frame me!” I pleaded with the inspector. “Please, sir, DNA test karo! She’s lying!”
Inspector Sinha nodded, sympathy in his eyes. “Give blood, we’ll match the DNA.” The police took a sample right there—a sharp prick, tube filling with red. “Result kal aa jayega.”
The waiting was torture. My right eyelid kept twitching. Amma always said, “Right eye twitch means trouble, beta.”
Sure enough, next day, the police called me in. Their faces were grim, resigned. My legs felt like jelly.
Inspector Sinha’s lips barely moved. “Rohan, DNA match ho gaya.” The words fell heavy, like a judge’s gavel. My knees buckled. My world spun. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t escape her curse.
