E take me time to type all.
My finger dey sweat, but I must talk am before e late.
504 read am, shock:
[Ah! Na real wahala be that! I know say that last message no be from 402!]
E drop 'God forbid' join. I fit hear the fear for the voice note e send join.
I reply quick: [I dey call police. Abeg, no call 402—leave am for police.]
I dey reason say police go sabi how to handle the matter, make e no turn blood for block.
But I no expect say 504 go reply:
[I don already call police. No go waka anyhow, and abeg, no try peep 404 like 402 do.]
E talk am twice, as if e dey warn me with all him heart.
[Police go call me when dem reach. Abeg, no go outside. Wait for my message, then we go talk everything give police.]
I reply: [Okay]
I dey shake, but I dey obey. For this kain time, na only wise person dey survive.
Na that time I fit relax small.
My mind calm, but my body still dey alert like soldier. I dey pray, dey tap my chest.
Because as police dey come, everything go soon clear.
I dey reason say make I dey ready my own story, in case dem ask question.
But the fact say 504 talk am twice make me reason—
For Nigeria, if person repeat warning, e mean say wahala dey ground.
I suddenly understand wetin dey disturb me since:
The thing wey dey my chest since don clear for my mind—
Because I hear 404 door close, but when I look peephole, na the face of 404 man I see…
Na for that moment my heart nearly commot for mouth. The kain gist you no go fit ever talk for family WhatsApp group. The corridor still dey silent, police siren never reach, but my own wahala don start inside my head.
I check my phone battery, see say e don nearly die. I glance clock—1:47am, sleep don run far. Rain dey beat zinc roof for estate, and somewhere far, I hear danfo horn blast like warning from another world. I peep window—see police torchlight dey flash for estate wall, siren dey whine small for distance. God abeg, no let wahala jam me for this block.
I dey wait for police, but my own wahala don already start—because for this Lagos, na the quiet fear dey bite pass.
